To celebrate the Festival of Archaeology, Dr Andrew Lane examines how artists have used archaeological discoveries in their depictions of the classical world. The myths and legends, historical events and ruins of the past have always inspired artists, but with the development of archaeological practices in the 19th century it is possible to detect a growing realism in many paintings. This extended tour includes the chance to view Alan Sorrell’s ambitious reconstruction of Roman London, Londinium Romanum, that is not normally on public display.

The tour will last for approximately 1 hour.

Location: Guildhall Art Gallery and London’s Roman Amphitheatre. On arrival, please check in with the Welcome Desk and meet in the Main Gallery at the start of the tour.

Accessibility: This location is wheelchair accessible. Foldable stools are available for use if required. Please let us know on the next page if you might require any reasonable adjustments to attend the tour and enjoy the activities safely.

The tour is designed for adults. Accompanied children are welcome, although the suggested minimum age is 15 years old.

This is a ticketed event, and numbers have been kept deliberately low to aid enjoyment and promote health and safety.
