Join the Dovecot Tapestry team at the Guildhall Art Gallery and discover the contemporary artists who are redefining tapestry today.
Beyond Bayeux Tapestry Now highlights how, since the 20th century, Dovecot’s highly skilled weavers in Edinburgh have collaborated with artists to demonstrate the continuing relevance and potential of tapestry.
Dovecot Director Celia Joicey will outline historic and recent commissions including David Hockney’s playful approach to the medium as well as Hurvin Anderson’s design for The Lincoln College Tapestry. As part of the tour, you’ll have a unique opportunity to ask questions and to learn from Dovecot Head of Tapestry and Master Weaver Naomi Robertson how a tapestry is approached, from the design concept, choice of yarns and approach to colours to the final cutting-off.
